The Cooling System

The job of the cooling system is to keep the engine at the right temperature during all driving conditions. Whether you're driving in the snow or on a warm summers day, the cooling system is working hard to keep your car running smoothly.Car overheating

However, the cooling system is probably the most neglected system in a vehicle.
Engine coolant deteriorates over a period of time, losing its ability to protect components against rust, corrosion, and scale deposits. The resulting scale deposits can seriously impair the effectiveness of the cooling system.

Most car manufacturers recommend a cooling system service every two years or 30,000 miles. Unfortunately, some drivers neglect this service.
A reputable garage will check the coolant levels and advise whether it needs to be changed or topped up. This will help to avoid overheating in the summer and ensure you have the proper coolant and anti-freeze mix during the winter.

Applying coolant

The problem
whilst driving, stones fly up and hit the radiator. Occassionlly a stone will damage the radiator and cause a leak. Sometimes the leak will be serious and a new radiator will need to be fitted.

The solution
Wynn's Service Centres recommend 'Professional Radiator Stop Leak' which is designed to seal leaks in cooling systems preventing coolant loss. This product is best added before you take a long road trip as a first defence against coolant loss resulting from radiator damage.
Please note that radiator stop leak is not meant as a permanent cure, but as a short term fix or emergency repair.
